About

About Us
The Lava Beds Butte Valley Resource Conservation District (LBBVRCD) is a special district dedicated to supporting sustainable land stewardship in northeastern Siskiyou and northwestern Modoc counties. Established to serve the needs of rural and agricultural communities, LBBVRCD works with landowners, partners, and agencies to implement voluntary, science-based conservation practices that protect and enhance natural resources.
Our Mission
To support resilient landscapes and communities through collaborative natural resource conservation. Our focus includes wildfire prevention, watershed and habitat restoration, sustainable land management, water quality improvement, juniper management, drought resilience, and technical assistance for working lands.
Who We Serve
We work with private landowners, farmers, ranchers, public agencies, and local organizations to promote practices that sustain the long-term health of the land and the people who depend on it. As a non-regulatory entity, we are uniquely positioned to coordinate funding and conservation efforts across property lines and jurisdictions.

Our Revitalization
After a period of dormancy, LBBVRCD began a renewed phase of operations in 2025 under the leadership of a volunteer District Manager and a dedicated Board of Directors. The district has since reestablished foundational compliance, rebuilt partnerships, and secured early funding to support regional conservation. This new chapter is focused on addressing urgent environmental challenges, particularly the risks of wildfire, invasive juniper encroachment, and increasing drought pressures.
Our Approach
We believe in collaborative conservation. LBBVRCD acts as a hub to connect local stakeholders with funding opportunities, project coordination, and technical expertise. By leveraging partnerships and local knowledge, we help bring real, on-the-ground improvements to the landscape.
