Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Resource Conservation District (RCD)?

RCDs are local, non-regulatory special districts established under California law to help landowners and communities manage and conserve natural resources. They provide technical assistance, conservation planning, education, and access to funding for restoration and land stewardship.

What does LBBVRCD do?

We support landowners, farmers, ranchers, and local communities in northeastern Siskiyou and northwestern Modoc counties through wildfire prevention, watershed and habitat restoration, sustainable land management, drought and climate resilience, and conservation education.

Who does LBBVRCD serve?

Our service area includes rural and agricultural communities in the Lava Beds and Butte Valley region. We work with private landowners, local organizations, Tribes, and government partners.

Is LBBVRCD a government agency?

We are a local government entity (special district) but operate independently. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and rely on grants, donations, and partnerships, not tax revenue.

How is LBBVRCD funded?

We receive funding through competitive grants, cooperative agreements, and limited local support. We do not currently receive general tax funding.

Can LBBVRCD help me with my land or property?

Yes. We offer free or low-cost technical assistance to landowners for conservation planning, erosion control, habitat improvements, and wildfire preparedness, depending on available resources.

How can I get involved with LBBVRCD?

You can volunteer, attend public meetings, participate in planning efforts, or consider becoming a board member. Reach out via our contact form or sign up for our newsletter to stay informed.

Is my donation to LBBVRCD tax-deductible?

Yes. As a government special district, donations made for public benefit purposes may be tax-deductible. Please consult your tax advisor.
